Inscribing bar codes on diamonds is currently an uncommon practice, but this illustrates how much information can be put on the girdle of a diamond, which is the very small rim that runs around the diamond. A diamond bar code would require high magnification and a bar code reader to decode it.

Typically diamond inscriptions are grading report numbers, brand names, logos or other data to aid in identification and tracking.

GSI uses state-of-the-art excimer laser systems, produced by PhotoScribe Technologies, for all its gemstone inscription. Diamonds are guaranteed not to crack or fracture based on this exclusive cold laser technology.
