Be a gemologist - for a minute! The diamond
below is shown at 10 power magnification, which is minimum magnification
that a gemologist would use to examine a gemstone. However, higher
magnification is required to look for any treatments or confirm the
naturalness of the gem. Click on "Zoom In" to scope this diamond up to 60 power.
A diamond examined under magnification can exhibit a range
of distinguishing features, from tiny internal fissures, or
"feathers," to "naturals," which are part of the original
diamond crystal surface left unpolished. These features, which
are called "inclusions" and "external blemishes," are marked
on the plotting diagram of the grading report.
