Mark Gershburg, Founder and
CEO
Mark Gershburg is an industry veteran with a quarter of a
century experience in the gem lab industry. He started in
the business in 1980 as a grader for one of the world's largest
gem labs. His professionalism, creativity, and commitment
to the lab were rewarded with increasing responsibility over
the next two decades. He was promoted to Director
and later became its CEO. Mr. Gershburg is widely credited
with the enormous growth of the lab, including three branch
offices, creating one of the most efficient grading operations,
and building an award-winning research team.
In early 2005 Mr. Gershburg launched Gemological
Science International, a new, innovative lab designed specifically
to meet the rapidly changing needs of the jewelry industry
in the 21st Century.
He has assembled a new, talented staff of executives, researchers,
and consultants, many of whom are widely known and respected
in the industry.
He is actively involved in several jewelry industry organizations
including the World Diamond Council, Diamond Manufacturers
and Importers of America, and the Diamond Dealers Club. He
serves as one of three directors of the U.S. Kimberly Process
Authority, an organization that works closely with the U.S.
government to prevent the infiltration of "conflict diamonds"
into legitimate trade.
